From the artist: I am a graduate of Kirkwood Community College Liberal Arts Program. Originally I started at Kirkwood in the engineering program and took a ceramics class to fulfill a humanities credit. After that class I changed my major and have been pursuing art ever since. My work is a play in contrast, light and dark, rigid patterns and organic flow. I have a love of math and use it when designing the geometric patterns that decorate my raku pots. The designs are an attempt to complement and contrast the round forms of the vases with rigid black lines and bright color. I moved to Des Moines almost one year ago and love the city and its culture. I am currently working out of a small home setup, but have plans to build a bigger studio in the near future and will continue to explore contrast.
