Meet the Owner

Hi!! I'm Dina Bechman.

Five Monkeys Inc is my passion, I am a one woman show.  I have finally attained a title I've tried to claim in many past jobs, C.O.E. - Chick Over Everything!  I handle every detail of this business.  I work hard, I believe in it and I want every experience at Five Monkeys Inc to be a positive one.

I have always been a creator.   About 15 years ago I started painting on glass on reclaimed windows.  My work is constantly evolving and it is one of my favorite parts of my life.  The other favorite is my family.  I have an amazing, supportive husband and five equally amazing children, four boys and one girl.  My daughter is mother to my grand-daughter and is expecting another girl in November 2016.

I started Five Monkeys Inc in March 2014 in a little 400 sq ft, not so perfectly located, storefront on the west end of downtown Des Moines.  In August of 2015 I moved to a new storefront seated in the community that I grew up in.  In fact when I went to high school down the street my location was a restaurant where I'd come for lunch a couple times a week.  In May of 2016 I expanded into the space next to me to make sure I had room to accommodate the art events I host every Friday.

I started this business not only as an outlet for my own work but to give other local artists a place to display and sell their work.  It is also my goal to have Five Monkeys Inc be a connector of community.  Artists and buyers, artists and artists, materials and artists, people to people.  I serve an underserved population of artists in Des Moines, entry to mid level artists.  I host many artists first gallery showing.  Many artists will 'graduate' from here and on to bigger & better things or things that better serve their medium or genre of art. I encourage it, I anticipate it. I want to help give them confidence, sales, marketing advice, connections to an audience and success.

My commission rate is one of the lowest in the area charged to artists. I want to do the best by my artists and customers.  I feel strongly that they deserve the lion's share of the sale price and I don't want to have to increase what I charge my customers.  Each and every purchase has impact.  I am truly thankful for all of my customers and the support they show my business and the artists I represent.
